Dear Justine,
Thank you for being so straight forward and providing such great information on the PGC website.
My question to you is how do I talk to my teenage son about sex? I am a single mother and I want to help him to understand the problems with being sexually activate too soon.
I patiently await your response.
Sincerely,
Want to say the right thing
Dear Want To Say The Right Thing;
Thank you for asking that question. Being a parent is the hardest job in the world and having to talk about sex with your child is probably the most difficult.
First, take a deep breath!
Sometimes we make life and conversation with our children more difficult than is necessary. They want factual information and non-threatening or questionable dialogue.
Ask him what he knows and inject the myths that you may have heard as a teenager yourself. Laugh about them but engage him and ask him what he thinks the right response should be.
Here is your opportunity to correct and empower him with healthy and good information.
Your local Planned Parenthood has some great information for parents and youth and SIECUS (Sexual Information and Education Council United States) website is a great resource for you.
Don’t be afraid or embarrassed!
Always remember if no one told you they love you today I do.
Remember it is a learning process for you and for him. |
